What Is a 48 Ton Crawler Excavator?
A 48 ton crawler excavator is a heavy hydraulic excavator designed for large-scale earthmoving, foundation excavation, mining support, trenching and infrastructure projects. Its tracked undercarriage provides a stable operating base for demanding job sites and uneven terrain.
Excavators in this weight class provide higher bucket capacity, hydraulic flow and working reach than medium-size machines. They are commonly used for bulk excavation, large construction projects and applications where higher material handling volume is required.
The RUNTX RTX485 48 Ton Crawler Excavator has an operating weight of 48.5 tons and a 2.3 m³ bucket. Powered by a Cummins QSM11 engine rated at 254 kW at 1800 r/min, the machine provides a maximum digging depth of 7320 mm and a maximum excavation reach of 11660 mm.

1. 254 kW Cummins QSM11 Engine
The RTX485 is equipped with a Cummins QSM11 engine rated at 254 kW at 1800 r/min. This power configuration supports excavation, hydraulic functions, swing operation and machine travel during heavy construction and earthmoving work.
2. 2.3 m³ Bucket Capacity
The 2.3 m³ bucket provides increased material handling capacity for bulk excavation, soil removal and truck loading. This bucket size is suitable for large earthmoving projects where higher excavation volume per cycle is required.
3. High-Flow Hydraulic System
The hydraulic system provides a maximum flow of 360 × 2 L/min and operates at a working pressure of 34.3 MPa. The K5V200DT hydraulic pump supports coordinated boom, arm, bucket, swing and travel functions during heavy excavation cycles.
4. 276 kN Arm Digging Force
An arm digging force of 276 kN supports demanding excavation and material breakout work. Together with the 2900 mm arm and 7060 mm boom, the configuration provides a balance of digging capability and extended working reach.
5. 11.66 m Maximum Excavation Reach
The RTX485 provides a maximum excavation reach of 11660 mm, a maximum digging depth of 7320 mm and a maximum excavation height of 10760 mm. This working range supports large foundation work, earthmoving and infrastructure excavation.
6. Heavy Crawler Undercarriage
The RTX485 uses 600 mm track shoes, a 4360 mm track grounding length and an overall track width of 3490 mm. The crawler undercarriage provides a stable operating base for excavation and positioning on suitable heavy construction terrain.
7. 70% Gradeability
A specified gradeability of 70% supports machine travel on suitable sloped job-site access areas. High and low travel speeds of 4.8 km/h and 3.0 km/h provide two travel modes for machine repositioning.
